What it is for
Compliance Manager for Microsoft 365 is a personal-data discovery and clean-up tool for organisations on Microsoft 365 that must keep personal data to what they actually need. It finds IBAN and card numbers (and, for Türkiye, the national ID number) in Exchange Online mailboxes, OneDrive files and Teams one-to-one chats, for employees who have opted in, and lets your team remove them under safeguards you set, with every action recorded.
Unlike age-based retention rules, one-off eDiscovery purges or home-made scripts, it gives you a find, review, delete-only-what-you-choose workflow with a hard deletion limit. It keeps scan results, logs and configuration in your own Azure storage.
Alongside Microsoft Purview
If you already use Microsoft Purview, this sits alongside it: Purview tracks your posture; this does the clean-up. Microsoft Purview Compliance Manager is a different product from inthouse Compliance Manager, which is why we use the full name on first mention.
